Can an Ohio Notary Public Certify a Birth Certificate?

No, an Ohio notary public cannot legally notarize or certify a copy of a birth certificate. In Ohio, vital records like birth, death, and marriage certificates are official public records managed strictly by the government. Because a notary is not the custodian of the original government record, we are not authorized to make or verify copies of them.  


How to Get an Official Copy instead:
